Invitation to Barken 2012

You could not get a ticket to the Birk this year? Now you have the opportunity to join in the Bark. Saturday the 1st of September, at 13:00, a duathlon for adults will begin. It requires precision, power and navigational skills.

We are pleased to announce that Barken 2010 will include a prominent list of Barken champions of all ages, and many nationalities.

We meet at Sætre Marina for a brief information meeting at kl.12.The meeting will only last a few minutes, and Immediately after the meeting we synchronize our watches and at 13:00 sharp, you start bicycling at your own pace and choice of route to Ertsivka, a hidden bay in the southern part of the municipality. PS, don't forget to add time to a visit to the shop.

The "Du" in duathlon consists of a regatta using a sailing boat of your own design. All natural materials that can be found along the way are allowed to be used in building the boat. Neither synthetic materials nor materials harvested prior to the start of the race are allowed. You may freely spend the time after arriving to build, or rest, but at 18:00, the boats must be ready to sail. The boats are to sail to a point on the other side of the lake. The panel of judges will determine the target point.

The winner is found according to simple rules. Anybody not arriving precisely at his or her announced ideal time gets a score equal to the deviation (in number of minutes). When the sailing boats have anchored up, they are measured from the starting point and will be given 1 point for every degree of deviation from the target. Additional points may be assigned by the panel of judges for poor seamanship, ramming of other participants' boats, or similarly dishonorable conduct. On the other hand, bonus points may be subtracted from the score for exceptional design or craftsmanship.
